Opens 2pm, Saturday 9 April 2016
Exhibition dates: Saturday 9 – 30 April 2016

The BONSAI PRINT project brought together two diverse creative groups so that the participants could share ideas, exchange skills and gain and develop a deeper understanding of Bonsai and Print Processes among the participants. The collaborative element took various forms and was principally inspired by the length of time required to grow and style a bonsai tree.

Megalo Members joined Bonsai/Print participants for printmaking demonstrations during 2015 which included, etching, lithography and screen print. Some printmakers have begun to grow their own trees, and begin the long journey toward a ‘finished’ Bonsai, while some Bonsai artists have been inspired by the possibilities inherent in printmaking and are developing their own two-dimensional work for display.

The group have concentrated on creative utilisation of the inflexibility of Bonsai processes and the relative flexibility of print to create a unique group exhibition. Trees and some of the artwork will be refreshed throughout the exhibition.

Kukkiri - Amy Kerr-Menz & Melinda Heal

  • Galerie h2o Kyoto Japan (map)

Amy Kerr-Menz and Melinda Heal exhibit Katazome and Yuzen dyed works at Galerie h2o in Kyoto, Japan.

「Kukkiri」 means distinct and bold. For both artists, this is part of the attraction of the traditional resist techniques Katazome and Yuzen; the creative effort involved in achieving crisp, clear resist lines and patterns.

Washi dyed with rich natural dye colours, transparent silk with flying parrots, incredibly detailed hand-cut stencils and multilayered fabric works, Kerr-Menz and Heal bring a new and Australian twist to traditional Japanese techniques.

Kerr-Menz's participation in Kukkiri is supported by the ACT Government.
